A few things you might be wondering

Good questions.

Does my data leave my computer?

With local models, your notes and AI requests stay on your machine. Once your models are downloaded, local AI works offline. If you choose a cloud model or an external tool, the information needed for that request is sent to that service.

Do I need a powerful computer?

Smaller local models can run without a dedicated GPU. Speed and model size depend on your hardware. Graite includes a curated model catalog, so you can start small and choose what fits your machine.

Can I bring my existing notes?

Graite is built around plain, Obsidian-compatible Markdown. Your notes stay as ordinary files. There’s no proprietary format to export, and you can use your own file backup and sync tools.

Is it really free?

Graite is free and open source under Apache 2.0. Local models have no per-token provider charge; they use your hardware and electricity. Optional cloud models use your own API key and are billed by the provider.

Can I use cloud AI too?

Yes. Add your own provider key when you want a cloud model. You choose when to use it and what context to share. Local models don’t depend on a cloud subscription.
